Staying Young and Healthy: Tips from a Busy Mom and Boxing Gym Owner

As a mother of two, a boxing gym owner, and a businesswoman with nearly two decades of experience as a contractor and consultant, I understand the importance of staying healthy and fit. It's not just about looking good but also about feeling good and being able to keep up with the demands of a busy life. Here are some of the things that I do to stay young and healthy.

Regular Exercise

First and foremost, I make sure to exercise regularly. As a boxing gym owner, I'm lucky to have access to top-notch training equipment and professional trainers who help me stay in shape. I incorporate a variety of exercises into my routine, including cardio, strength training, flexibility work, and mobility exercises. This helps me maintain a healthy weight, tone my muscles, improve cardiovascular health, enhance mobility, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

Balanced Plant-Based Diet

Exercise is just one part of the equation. I also pay close attention to what I eat, following a plant-based diet. I consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats while avoiding processed foods, sugary drinks, and excess salt and sugar. By fueling my body with nutrient-dense foods, I provide it with the building blocks it needs to repair and regenerate itself, which can help slow down the aging process.

Prioritizing Sleep

Another key component of staying young is getting enough sleep. As a busy mom, business owner, and corporate consultant, it can be tempting to sacrifice sleep for productivity. However, sleep is essential for both physical and mental health, helping to regulate hormones, boost immune function, and improve cognitive function. I prioritize sleep by establishing a regular bedtime routine, avoiding caffeine and electronics before bed, and creating a dark, quiet, and comfortable sleep environment.

Sun Tanning and Skincare

I take care of my skin by sun tanning every day and using sunscreen. The sun provides essential vitamin D, which is crucial for bone health and immune function. I ensure to tan safely by applying sunscreen to protect my skin from harmful UV rays. Additionally, I avoid wearing makeup to let my skin breathe and stay healthy. I also practice various treatments, such as facial acupuncture, which uses tiny needles to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and tone.

Positive Mindset

Perhaps the most important factor in staying young and healthy is mindset. As a female entrepreneur in a male-dominated industry, it's easy to succumb to self-doubt and negative self-talk. However, I make a conscious effort to cultivate a positive mindset by focusing on my strengths, setting achievable goals, and surrounding myself with supportive and empowering people. Staying mentally strong and resilient helps me tackle challenges and maintain a youthful outlook on life.
